Tunisia: continuous deterioration of food and energy balance (BCT)

Meeting on November 26, 2014, the Executive Board of the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) noted the deceleration of the export rate (2.1% against 4.9% last year) against an acceleration of imports (7.2% against 3.3%), with a continued deterioration in both energy balance and food balance which deficit exceeded 3.2 billion and 1.2 billion dinars, respectively, up 50.3% and 60.9%, representing more than 82% of the expansion of the overall trade deficit.

However, external trade has posted some improvement since October, especially with the rising pace of exports and the consolidation of capital goods, raw materials and semi products imports.
