Tunisia: Dam fill rate reaches 35.16% as of February 10

As of February 10, 2025, Tunisia’s dam fill rate stands at 35.16%, with a total water stock of 832.6 million cubic meters (Mm³). This represents a negative deviation of 23.72 Mm³, compared to the average of the last three years, according to data published on Tuesday by the National Observatory of Agriculture (ONAGRI).

Recent rainfall contributed 7.836 Mm³ on February 10 alone. Since September 1, 2024, the dams have accumulated 600.183 Mm³, significantly below the average recorded during the same period in previous years (998.544 Mm³).

Water stocks are distributed as follows:  40.5% (750.98 Mm³) in the North, 13.7% (61.89 Mm³) in the Center and 31.9% (19.73 Mm³) in the Cap-Bon.

According to ONAGRI statistics, the fill rate for the Sidi Salem Dam in Beja is 20.3%, with a stock of 117.620 Mm³, while the Sidi el-Barrak Dam in Beja has a fill rate of 73.5%, with a stock of 210.640 Mm³. These two dams are the largest in Tunisia.

The observatory emphasized that despite a slight improvement, the situation remains concerning. Optimal water management is crucial to avoid a water crisis, particularly for irrigation and drinking water supply.
