Tunisia: Financial transfers reaches TND 5.8 billion at end of June 2023

Financial transfers to Tunisia reached 5.8 billion dinars at the end of June 2023, compared with 11.6 billion dinars during the same period the previous year, according to the Central Bank of Tunisia’s (BCT) bulletin on financial indicators No 223.

Over the whole of 2022, these transfers amounted to 19.1 billion dinars.

President Kaïs Saïed had paid an unannounced visit to the headquarters of the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) last Friday, and stressed the need for better control of financing to Tunisia.

The issuing institution’s indicators also show an increase in the value of current transactions to TND 44.1 billion, during the first half of 2023, which are mainly made up of commercial transactions and tourism receipts, as well as workers’ remittances, compared with TND 38.9 billion during the same period in 2022, recording a significant increase of TND 5.2 billion (11.8%).

This situation explains why the balance of payments deficit was kept under control at no more than 1.8% of gross domestic product (GDP) at the end of July 2023, according to the latest figures from the BCT’s Executive Board meeting held on September 7.
