Tunisia: Flahaut willing to support Marzouki’s proposal to convert Tunisian Debts intoinvestment projects

Belgian Chamber of Representatives President André Flahaut expressed, Tuesday, will to support President Moncef Marzouki’s proposal to convert a share of the Tunisian debts into investment projects.

“I will support the proposal to convert a share of the Tunisian debts into social-economic development projects to the Belgian government,” he said, pointing out the need for Tunisia to preserve stability of the State and civil peace, and consecrate freedoms, in compliance with the provisions of the new Constitution.

In his address to the Belgian Parliament, President Marzouki asked the Belgian government to drop the Tunisian debts or convert them into investment projects, in order to consecrate the spirit of co-operation and solidarity between the two countries.

He also exhorted the Belgian Parliament to support this proposal in Belgium and in the European Union, calling the Belgian businessmen to invest in Tunisia and tourists to come in large numbers.

The President of the Republic has been in Brussels since Tuesday, to take part in the 4th EU-Africa Summit, April 2-3.
