Tunisia: fruit exports soar by 70%.

Tunisia’s fruit exports have soared by 70% in quantity to more than 34 thousand tons, from the beginning of the year until September 28, 2021 compared to the same period of 2020.

In value, they have risen by 44% and generated revenues estimated at 83.1 million dinars (MD), according to the Interprofessional Group of Fruit (Gifruits).

The Libyan market accounts for more than 78% of the Tunisian fruit exports. These include primarily watermelons (nearly 9,000 tons), peaches (7,312 tons), apricots (3,060 tons) and plums (2,382 tons). In second place comes Italy, which imports from Tunisia mainly watermelons (3,290 tons), and the UAE with imports of peaches (378 tons) and strawberries (293 tons).

 According to the same source, Tunisia’s exports to Libya have more than doubled in 2021 (first 9 months of the year), from 11.8 thousand tons at the end of September 2020 to nearly 27 thousand tons in September 2021.

In value, they (exports) grew 81%, to exceed 45.2 MD.
