Tunisia has highest VAT in Arab world

Tunisia has the highest value-added tax (VAT) in the Arab world, 19%, against 7 to 17% in Algeria, 14% in Egypt and 10% in Lebanon, according to a recent study prepared by the Alliance Business Centres Network (ABCN).

The UAE has the lowest VAT regionally and globally, compared to countries such as UK, Switzerland, Germany, Mexico, South Africa and Australia, which makes its investment environment constantly competitive for all sectors.

Tunisia is overtaken in this area only by Hungary (27%), Denmark (25%), Italy (22%), Spain (21%), the United Kingdom and France (20%).

It is tied with Germany, noted the study that reported a 17% rate for china, 16% for Mexico, 14% for South Africa, 10% for Australia and 6% for Switzerland.
