With a capacity of 200,000 passengers per year, this airport operates weekly flights to the capital and also operates an internal flight between Tunis and El Borma oil field and international flights for the transport of pilgrims during the pilgrimage and Umrah.
Former military airport, the Gabes-Matmata Terminal has been managed since 2008 by the Office for Civil Aviation and Airports (OACA). It has a 3 km runway.
During an inner cabinet meeting held June 25, 2015 in Gabes, it was agreed to improve the activity of the airport through scheduling new international air services.
