Tunisia: inflation brought down to 3.5% in January (INS)

Tunisia’s inflation rate fell to 3.5% in the month of January 2016 from 4.1% in December 2015, according to the latest data published by the National Statistics Institute (INS).

This decrease was mainly due to the deceleration in the growth rate of prices between January 2016 and December 2015 (+ 0.3%) compared with that recorded between January 2015 and December 2014 (+ 0.8%).

As for the consumer price index, it reached 0.3% in January 2016 compared to December, 2015.

This was due, in large part, by the increase in the “clothing and footwear” group prices by 0.9%, the ‘miscellaneous goods and services” group prices, including insurance services (6.9%) and the “housing and domestic energy” group prices by 0.4%.
