Tunisia: inflation rises to 5.9% YoY in 2012

The consumer price index for the year 2012 in Tunisia rose by 5.6% compared to 2011.
The tobacco index recorded the largest increase with 10.6%. Increases affected, in particular, the hotel and catering group (8%), clothing and footwear (7.7%), food and education (tied 7 5%), furniture and household equipment (6.2%), recreation and culture (2.7%), transport (2.4%), health (1.9%) and communications (0.3%).
The index including water, electricity and gas and housing prices has decreased compared to last month, reaching 3.1%.
On an annual basis, the price index for domestic consumption stood at 5.9%, the largest increase being consistently recorded in hotel and catering prices (9.4%) and then those of food (8.4%). Increases have also affected tobacco and clothing and footwear (7.7% tied), furnishings and household equipment (6.8%), recreation & culture (4.1%), transportation (3.6%), health and education (tie 1.8%) and communications (0.6%).
Note that between the months of December and November 2012, the largest price increase was recorded in the clothing and footwear group as well as catering and hospitality (+0.9%), followed by that of transport (+0.7%), food (+0.6%), furniture and household equipment (0.5%).
The index including prices of water, electricity, gas and housing posted, for its part, an increase of 0.4% between November and December.
