Tunisia: INS reports slight recovery in exports and imports

Tunisia’s external trade posted a 9.9% increase in exports during the first four months of 2013, reaching a value of 9,459.1 MTD.

For their part, imports have evolved by 8%, reaching a value of 1, 2871.4 MTD, bringing the trade deficit to 3,412.3 MTD against 3,316 MTD during the same period in 2012.

However, the rate of coverage of imports by exports increased by 1.3 points compared to its level of last year to reach 73.5%.

The increase in exports is explained by the growth of exports and imports under the offshore regime where exports rose by 6.1% during the first four months of the year, against 2.5% during the same period last year, while imports under this scheme increased by 3.4% against a 0.8% drop in 2012.

Trade under the general regime posted a 16.9% growth in exports in 2013 against 12.9% in 2012. Imports also went up 9.9% during the first four months of 2013 against 20.4% in the same period last year.
