Tunisia: Microsoft launches annual startups’ sponsorship program

The Microsoft Innovation Centre (MIC) launched its annual program of startups’ sponsorship for the 2011-2012 period.

The aim of this annual program, organized in partnership with HP Tunisia, Tunisie Télécom, El Ghazela Technological Park and the U.S. Embassy in Tunis, is to support ten startups operating in the field of developing information technology programs and solutions.

The MIC program will allow young firms to benefit from financing opportunities with such MIC financial partners like the Small and Medium Firms Financing Bank (BFPME), TunInvest, Alternative Capital Partner and Assistance, Management, Expansion Fund Company (SAGES).

Microsoft Tunis Director-General Mohamed Bridaa said during a meeting with the press, held on Wednesday in Tunis, that MIC is a platform meant for all local actors and open to the different technologies.

He added that the program aims to sponsor startups, provide the necessary support for job creation and promote digital economy, in addition to the development of new generations of applications and services at lower costs.

U.S. Ambassador in Tunis Gordon Gray said that the American government is proud to be partner of MIC for its sponsoring program of startups for the 2011-2012 period.

“We do believe in the startups’ technological competence to create innovative job opportunities,” he said.

“Our partnership with MIC reflects the concrete commitment of the U.S. government to work with the local partners to develop the economic opportunities and create jobs in Tunisia,” the ambassador concluded.
