Tunisia: MMR stands at 7.82% in November 1 (BCT)

The Money Market Rate (MMR) was 7.82% on November 1, 2019, up 0.56 percentage points from the same date last year (7.26% ), according to the monetary and financial indicators of the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT), published Monday.

The monthly average rate of the money market was 7.81%, during the month of October 2019, against 7.27% in October 2018, 5.23% in 2017 and 4.33% in 2016 .

As for the current year, the MMR reached its highest level in March with a rate of 7.90%, just a few days after the decision taken by the BCT (February 19, 2019), to raise its key rate by 100 basis points, bringing it from 6.75% to 7.75%.

The aim was to “cope with continued inflationary pressures that pose a risk to the economy and a threat to purchasing power,” according to the BCT’s Executive Board.

Finally, it should be noted that the issuing institution raised its key interest rate twice in 2018. The first increase was decided in March (+75 basis points) and the second in June (+100 basis points).
