Tunisia moves down 9 spots in Sustainable Development Report 2022

The new report of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) ranks Tunisia 69th in the world in terms of sustainable development out of 163 countries assessed.

Tunisia received a score of 70.7 and moved down nine spots compared to the previous edition. It is in second place in the Arab world but also in Africa.

Nevertheless, the report notes a noticeable improvement in Tunisia’s performance in four of the seventeen transformation maps of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely education, access to safe water and sanitation, responsible consumption and the fight against climate change.

In the Arab world, Algeria tops the ranking and is 64th globally. Tunisia (69th) is second, followed by Jordan (80th) and the Sultanate of Oman (81st). Morocco (84th) is fifth among countries of the Arab world, ahead of the United Arab Emirates (85th) and overtaking Egypt (87th). Iran (88th) is eighth, followed by Qatar (94th) and Saudi Arabia (96th).

Algeria (64th) also leads the African ranking, followed by Tunisia (69th) and Morocco (84th). Egypt (87th) is in fourth place, ranking ahead of Mauritius (89th) and South Africa (108th). Ghana (110th) and Gabon (113th) follow. Botswana (116th) is ninth among African countries while Kenya (118th) closes the continental top 10.

The top scoring countries in the SDSN report are Finland with a score of 86.5, Denmark with a score of 85.6, and Sweden with a score of 85.2.
