Tunisia: number of overnight stays down 60% in Djerba / Zarzis

The number of overnight stays in the tourist resort Djerba / Zarzis has dropped dramatically by 60% in October 2015 compared to last year, Jalel Henchiri, president of the local federation of Djerba-Zarzis hotels said in an interview African Manager.

He called for improving the quality of service and the tourist product, and to fight against environmental degradation in order to save the tourism sector.

He furthermore stressed that it is essential to draw a comprehensive roadmap for the 2017/2018 year to overcome the problems of that sector.

Several hotels have shut down in Djerba and many employees are now laid off as a result of last June terrorist attack on a hotel in the tourist resort of El Kantaoui, Sousse.
