Tunisia: olive oil exports in free fall

“48,000 tons of olive oil worth 353 million Tunisian dinars have been exported from the start of the campaign until the end of March 2016”, said the director general of agribusiness at the Ministry of Industry, Noureddine Agrebi.

In this context, he told African Manager that a considerable decrease was recorded compared to the previous season, in which 158,000 tons were exported for a value of 979 million dinars.

Regarding packaged olive oil, the value of exports reached 50 million dinars with an amount estimated at 5250 tons against 6000 tons last year (worth 2 million dinars).

The official also stressed that the production of olive oil amounted to 150 thousand tons against 350 thousand tons in 2015, corresponding to a significant drop of 60%, because of climatic reasons.
