Tunisia: phosphate production resumes in Mdhilla

Phosphate extraction and production units under the Gafsa Phosphates Company (CPG) located in the delegation of Mdhilla have resumed operations after a 7-month hiatus.

Phosphate transport to the chemical fertilizer plants in Skhira and Gabes remains blocked, head of production monitoring at CPG, Afef Saghraoui told TAP news agency.

The suspension of production in recent months is due to the various sit-ins staged by job seekers near CPG production units.

The production of commercial phosphate in the governorate of Gafsa has recorded a sharp decline due to social protests.

Phosphate production at the CPG has not exceeded 200 thousand tons from January 2021 until March 1, 2021, against 836 thousand tons planned.
