Tunisia: PM announces two-year social truce

In a statement made Sunday, September 13, 2015, Tunisian Prime Minister Habib Essid, announced a social truce of two years in Tunisia.

Essid has indicated that “there is an agreement reached with the UGTT, for the establishment of a social truce that would extend until the end of 2017.”

Habib Essid added that “there are currently ongoing negotiations which should be completed soon between the government and the UGTT and between UGTT and UTICA for the conclusion of the Agreement on social peace of two years to come into force upon signature and will extend until the end of 2017 the implementation of existing agreements and be an opportunity for investors to come in Tunisia and to foreign countries to believe that there is now a social peace in Tunisia and invest.”

Essid hoped that ” by that time social negotiations in the private sector will have ended. For the public sector, we reached an agreement that will be implemented by an announcement in the coming hours, “said the Prime Minister of Tunisia, adding that” thus we will usher in a new area of social peace and begin serious work “
