Tunisia: positive economic growth, but less than in 2018

Tunisia’s economy grew 1.1% in the first quarter of 2019 year-on-year and 0.1% compared to the fourth quarter of 2018, the National Institute of Statistics (INS) said in a statement Wdnesday.

Tunisia therefore begins the year 2019 on a positive growth ground, but with a rate that remains very low compared to 2.7% year-on-year at the end of the first quarter of 2018.

This decline is explained, according to the INS, first by the 0.6% decline in the VA (Value Added) of the manufacturing sector. The VA of the non-manufacturing industries sector also went down 0.8%.

Similarly, the VA of the agricultural and fishing sector recorded a 0.7% decline. However, the VA of the market services sector improved by 2.9%.
