Recent rainfall recorded in several regions of the country signals promising agricultural seasons, particularly for grain crops and olive production, President of the Tunisian Union of Agriculture and Fisheries (UTAP), Moez Ben Zaghdane, said on Friday during his participation in the 26th edition of the Agrinnov Forum held in Hammamet.
He stressed the need to anticipate and prepare in order to secure these harvests and facilitate grain collection, especially in the context of global changes, calling for greater reliance on national efforts.
The union leader, however, noted that damage caused to farmers by floods and overflowing wadis makes it essential to improve irrigation infrastructure and strengthen the agricultural insurance system.
He also said that Tunisian agriculture is now moving from a phase of abundance to a “management of scarcity” due to climate change and water shortages.
