Tunisia: public debt hits 104 billion dinars in 2021

Tunisia’s outstanding public debt reached 103.7 billion dinars at the end of the past year, or 79.7% of GDP, against 85.5% of GDP initially provided by the Finance Act 2021.

This emerged from the Brochure of the State Debt relating to December 2021 published by the Directorate General of Public Debt Management and Financial Cooperation under the Ministry of Finance.

Domestic debt amounted to 40.8 billion dinars at the end of 2021, or 31.4% of GDP, while the external debt is 62.9 billion dinars or 48.3% of GDP.

State debt service (principal + interest) reached 14.8 billion dinars at the end of last December, of which 7.1 billion dinars related to domestic debt service and 7.7 billion dinars related to foreign debt service.

The principal of the debt stood at 11 billion dinars, while the interests of the debt amounted to 3.7 billion dinars at the end of the last year.
