In North Africa, Tunisia ranks third for the highest average monthly salary in Africa, behind Morocco (1st with USD 2,100) and South Africa (2nd with USD 1,900), according to The Nation website.
The same source, citing the most recent available data, indicates that five countries record the highest salaries in US dollars. According to the report, Tunisia has an average monthly salary of around USD 1,600. Its economy is based on manufacturing, tourism, agriculture, and public-sector employment. Despite recent budgetary pressures, Tunisia continues to maintain relatively stable wages within the region.
Fourth and fifth places are occupied by Kenya (USD 1,400 per month) and Algeria (the equivalent of USD 1,300), respectively.
