Tunisia ranks 80th in Travel & Tourism Development Index

Tunisia ranked 80th out of 117 countries in the Travel & Tourism Development Index 2021, published by the World Economic Forum (WEF). The country has moved down three spots from the 2019 ranking.

The destination Tunisia obtained a score of 3.6. It ranked ninth in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region and seventh in Africa.

The Travel & Tourism Development Index is based on five criteria. These are the enabling environment for attractiveness, travel and tourism policies, infrastructure, the state of travel and tourism demand drivers, and the sustainability of travel and tourism.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) leads the MENA region with a score of 4.5 and the 25th place overall. Saudi Arabia, in its effort to redefine its tourism sector, moved up ten places to 33rd out of 117. Qatar moved up to third, ranking 43rd in the world.

Egypt is fifth (51st), ahead of the Kingdom of Bahrain (57th). Jordan (64th) is seventh in the MENA region, followed by Morocco (71st) and Tunisia (80th). Kuwait closes the TOP 10 in the region by ranking 86th overall.

Egypt (51st) is first in Africa with a score of 4.2 but also by gaining six places in the general nomenclature. Mauritius is second on the continent by moving up to 62nd position. South Africa is third, ranking 68th out of 117 countries. Morocco (71st) is fourth in Africa, overtaking Botswana (76th) and Kenya (78th). Tunisia (80th) is seventh and manages to rank ahead of Tanzania (81st) and Cape Verde (82nd). Namibia (88th) closes the African TOP 10.

Japan has taken the top spot in the world’s tourist destinations ranking for the first time with a score of 5.2. It takes the place of the United States, which has dropped one place this year. Spain is third, ahead of France and Germany.
