Tunisia: reported investments in industrial sector decline by nearly 24%

The reported investments in the industrial sector fell by 23.8%, to 1,208.8 million dinars (MD), between 2018 and 2019 (first five months of 2019), according to the business bulletin published by the Agency for Promotion of Industry and Innovation (APII).

The number of reported projects was down 6.1% to 1,792 in May, leading to a 13.5% drop in job creation to 23,945 jobs.

The reported investments in the services activities also edged down 29.7% in the 1st five months of 2019, to 408.2 MD.

However, the number of reported projects reached 5,146 in the 1st five months of 2019, up 1.8%.

These projects are expected to create 15,845 jobs, down 19.3% compared to 2018.

In terms of services related to industry, the reported investments, which account for 36.2% of the total reported investments in the service activities, increased by 2.2% from 144,6 MD in the 1st five months of 2018 to 147.8 MD during the same period in 2019.

The number of projects related to industry edged up 6.1% to 3,008, while the number of related jobs fell by 11.8%, to 7,894 jobs.
