Tunisia: reported investments in services sector up 3% until end of August

Reported investments in service activities reached 634.6 million dinars, until end August 2021, against 615.9 million during the same period in 2020, up 3%, according to data from the Agency for the Promotion of Industry and Innovation (APII).

The number of reported projects reached 5715 in the first eight months of 2021, compared to 5710 in the first eight months of 2020, a slight increase of 0.1%. These projects will create 19,666 job positions, compared to 18,903 job positions last year, up 4%.

Investments reported in the activities of fully exporting services recorded a decrease of 52.3% with an amount of 25.1 MD, at the end of August last year, against 52.6 MD during the same period of the year 2020.

The number of this type of projects went up 21.4%, from 757 during the first eight months of the year 2020 to 919 at the end of last August and the number of jobs to be created have increased by 30%, from 2913 to 3786 during the first eight months of the year 2021.

Services oriented to the local market which represent 96% of the total investment declarations in service activities during the first eight months saw a rise of 8.2% in declared investments, a decrease of 3.2% in terms of the number of projects and a decrease by 0.7% in terms of jobs to be created (15880 against 15990 in the first eight months of the year 2020).

The increase in investments during the first eight months of the year 2021 in service activities results both from higher reported investments in the Eastern regions which reached 553.6 MD against 548.8 MD during the year 2020 (up 0.9%), as well as that recorded in the Western regions whose reported investment increased by 20.3% (81 MD against 67 MD during the first eight months of the year 2020).

The increase recorded in reported projects in service activities is the result of the marked increase in the Western regions, whose number of reported projects in service activities rose from 650 to 661 during the first eight months of 2021 (+1.7%).

In contrast, the number of projects reported in the Eastern region fell by 0.1%, with 5054 versus 5060 projects reported in the first eight months of 2020.
