Tunisia-Russia: increase of trade hinges on adoption of GSP

“The adoption of the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) will certainly help promote our trade with Russia,” said representative of the Customs Jawher Hassiouni.

Hassiouni, whom we met Tuesday, February 16 on the sidelines of the first information forum on this system, said the new system provides several benefits including a 25% reduction of customs duties on products exported to the Russian market.

The customs official described this step as important especially that several sectors will be affected, such as agriculture, textiles and pharmaceuticals.

“The trade balance between the two countries remains negative and the generalized system of preference contributes to hoist Tunisian exports to Russia to a higher level,” he said.

The volume of Tunisian exports to that country is still very low not exceeding $ 30 million against nearly a billion dollars for imports from Russia.
