Tunisia: Russian Aeroflot Airlines to resume flights to Enfidha -Hammamet next May 30

Aeroflot Airlines, Russia’s largest airline, will resume flights to Tunisia from May 30, 2023, the company announced in a statement.

These new regular flights will operate from Moscow to Enfidha-Hammamet International Airport (Tunisia) on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, it added.

“Flights to the famous Mediterranean resort will be operated three times a week by wide-body Airbus A330 aircraft,” the company said.

Tunisia attracts travelers every year with its developed tourist infrastructure and the tourist season lasts until the end of October, the same source said.

At the end of February, Moscow announced the closure of its airspace to flights from 36 countries in response to the ban imposed by European countries on flights operated by Russian airlines or registered in the country.

Aeroflot Airlines has suspended all international flights since 8 March, except for those to the Belarusian capital of Minsk, as a result of the Russian-Ukrainian war and the circumstances that prevented its flights from becoming operational.

The Russian market remains important as it favors a certain balance in terms of the seasonality of tourist activity, especially as it is a market less vulnerable to crises, according to the academic and expert in the tourism sector, Moez Kacem.

Kacem recalled that the Russian market has monopolized, in 2019, about 21% of overnight stays in hotels before suffering the repercussions of the war with Ukraine.

This market, he added, records a significant demand for the Tunisian destination and could support the resumption of the regular rhythm of the tourist trade.

In 2019, Tunisia welcomed more than 630 thousand Russian tourists, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts. In 2020 and 2021, the number of tourists regressed due to the health crisis. In fact, only 90 thousand Russian tourists visited Tunisia during this period.
