Tunisia set to borrow more than 6,500 MTD in 2016

Tunisia’s own resources (tax and non-tax revenues) planned under the draft Finance Act 2016, which amount to 22,656 MTD are far from covering the expenses reported in the budget, Slim Besbes, former finance minister and vice chairman of the Committee on the fight against corruption and control of public finances at the House of People’s Representatives (ARP) said in an interview with African Manager.

Therefore, the country plans to borrow around 6,594 MTD, divided between an internal loan of 2,000 MTD and foreign borrowing of 4,594 MTD.

The borrowing will increase the country’s debt in spite of the control of budget deficit.

He said debt has increased slightly compared to its level of 2015 to reach 53.4% of GDP, distributed between 34% internal debt and 66% of external debt.
