Tunisia: State of Emergency Lifted

President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Moncef Marzouki issued a decree lifting the state of emergency in the whole country as of Wednesday, March 5, 2014, according to a statement of the Presidency of the Republic made public, Thursday.

This decision is an implementation of the recommendations issued from the National Security Council held, February 17, after consultation with the National Constituent Assembly President Mustapha Ben Jaafer and the Prime Minister Mehdi Jomaa.

The lifting of the emergency state does not limit the capacity of the security forces to enforce the law and does not preclude any request for military support should it be needed, the statement reads.

The decision will not bring about changes in the implementation of law and policies in force in the country, including those concerning military operation areas and border buffer zones, the same source specifies.
