Tunisia: tourism revenues down 51.7% in Q1 2016

Tourism in Tunisia is experiencing the worst crisis in its history. The finding is unanimous and conclusive in the wake of three particularly bloody attacks that had devastated the country.

According to figures released by Tunisia ’s National Tourist Office on Tuesday, April 5, 2016, tourism revenues have dropped by 51.7% in the first quarter of 2016 compared to the same period in 2015.

Revenues recorded during this quarter reached 281.6 million dinars, which is the worst figure ever in the tourism sector for decades.

According to the sector’s professionals, the fall in tourism revenues is particularly linked to the attacks in Bardo, in Sousse and on the Presidential Guard and the recent terrorist operation in Ben Guerdane.
