Tunisia: Tunisie Telecom to its shares in Mauritania’s Matel

Tunisian historical operator Tunisie Telecom has subsidiaries in Tunisia and abroad.

Indeed, the operator owns 51% of the shares of Mauritanian operator Matel.

But competition seems to be very tough especially with the presence of an operator as powerful as Morocco Telecom in the capital of Mauritel, the direct competitor of TT in the Mauritanian market.

Tunisie Telecom therefore plans to abandon this market by selling its shares to the highest bidder.

There is even talk of negotiations between TT and Orange-France Telecom for redemption. This news is of course to be confirmed.

Driven by its Dubai’s strategic partner, EIT, Tunisie Telecom Group plans to reorganize to better face competition at the local level, especially with the possible award of a global license to Tunisiana.

But, such resale requires the green light of the Government. It is believed that this issue will be discussed this week at the Cabinet meeting.
