Tunisia: unemployment rate up 0.2% in Q2

The unemployment rate in Tunisia posted an increase in the second quarter of 2015 reaching 15.2% against 15% in the first quarter of that year, the National Statistics Institute (INS) said Wednesday.

According to the results of Q2 2015 of the national survey on population and employment, the number of unemployed reached 605,100 of the total active population estimated at 3 million 199,000 against 601,400 unemployed in the first quarter.

The unemployment rate for males has reached 12.4% against 22.2% for females.

Regarding unemployed university graduates, according to the INS, they reached approximately 212,400 during the second quarter of 2015 against 222,900 during the first quarter, down 10,500 people.

Thus, the unemployment rate of university graduates reached 28.6% in the second quarter of 2015 against a rate of 30% during the first three months of this year.

The Greater Tunis (Tunis, Manouba, Ariana and Ben Arous) occupied the first place in the number of unemployed with 195,500 jobless followed by the Central East (84,600), the Central West (74,400), the Southeast (73.4 thousand), the Northeast (63.4 thousand), the Northwest (62,700) and the Southwest (51,100).
