Tunisia: value of fruit exports up 25% to TND 55.9 million

Tunisia’s fruit exports went up 25% in value to 55.9 million dinars from the start of the year until June 10, against 44.5 million dinars during the same period of 2021.

Data from the Inter-Professional Fruit Grouping seen by TAP showed the increase also included exported quantities which amounted to 15,763, until June 10 this year, compared to 14,076 during the same period last year, up 12 percent.

The Libyan market kept the lead in countries importing Tunisia’s fruits, with a value of 6.8 million dinars, followed by Italy, with 5 million dinars.

The third place went to the United Arab Emirates, with a value of more than 500,000 dinars, followed by France with 396,000 dinars. As for the fifth place, it went to the State of Kuwait with 297,000 dinars.

The volume of exports to the European markets reached 5,751 tons, while those directed to Gulf markets stood at 1,372 tons.

In terms of variety, watermelon accounted for the largest share of exported fruits, with sales of 4,887 tons, followed by peaches with 4,226 tons, then apricot with 2,734 tons, loquat with 1,215 kg, and plum with 712 kg.

According to preliminary estimates, the production of summer stone fruit is expected to reach 295,000, compared to 285,000 tons in the previous season, posting a slight rise of 3.5 percent.
