UAE to draft new energy policy

UAE aims to set up a draft plan for developing domestic energy policies and vision up to 2030, said a report, citing the country’s energy minister.

The UAE Minister of Energy Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei has called for an action plan on the state policy to regulate the energy sector at the first co-ordination meeting of officials from electricity and water authorities, Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation and Masdar, said the Emirati news agency WAM.

The action plan includes projections for growing demand on electricity, continued efforts to diversify the energy mix and launching massive public awareness campaign to address individual’s high consumption of power, it stated.

The meeting also discussed an array of issues including ensuring energy security and supply with consideration of environmental impact like reduction of carbon dioxide emissions and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions emitted by power sector facilities, said the report.
