National electricity production rose by 4% by the end of July 2025, reaching 11,631 GWh (including renewable self-production), while production for the domestic market grew by 2%, according to the energy situation report published on September 12 by the National Observatory of Energy and Mines.
It should be noted that STEG still holds the lion’s share of electricity production, accounting for 95% of national output. Electricity generated from natural gas increased by 4%.
The Ministry of Industry also reported that electricity production from renewable energies stood at 6%, recalling that about 350 MW of rooftop solar panels had been installed in the residential sector by the end of 2024, and 323 permits were granted for a total capacity of 50 MW on medium- and high-voltage grids in the industrial, service, and agricultural sectors.
It is worth noting that electricity imports, mainly from Algeria, covered 11% of local market needs by the end of July 2025.
As for electricity sales, they posted a slight increase of 1% during the first seven months of 2025. Sales to high-voltage clients rose by 22%, while sales to medium-voltage clients remained almost stable.
Industrial consumers remain the largest users of electricity, accounting for 58% of total demand from high- and medium-voltage customers.
