President of the Tunisian Observatory for Human Rights, Mustapha Abdelkebir, stated that the issue of the Libyan State’s debts to Tunisian clinics is starting to turn into a crisis affecting patients’ right to receive medical care.
In exclusive statements to the website The New Arab, he explained that most Libyan patients who travel to Tunisia for state-funded treatment suffer from chronic illnesses or require costly surgical procedures, which increases the volume of unpaid bills piling up in the clinics.
Abdelkebir called on the authorities of both countries to speed up the resolution of this problem and to strengthen cooperation between Libya and Tunisia, stressing that healthcare remains one of the most important areas for development between the two sides.
