Tunisia: Increase in insurance payouts by companies!

The Tunisian insurance sector is a key pillar of the national economy, providing financial security for individuals and businesses, according to Hatem Amira, Director General of the Tunisian Federation of Insurance Companies (FTUSA).

Speaking to Expresso on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, Amira noted that the sector includes around 1,200 insurance agents and 60 brokers, in addition to banks and the postal service that help distribute policies.

Over 1,000 experts work across various specialties, and the sector generates more than 10,000 direct and indirect jobs, despite successive crises, including the COVID-19 pandemic and international geopolitical tensions.

According to Amira, the sector’s total revenue reached 3,820 million dinars in 2024, up from 3,446 million in 2023, marking a 10% increase.

The average growth rate over the past five years stands at 9%.

The automotive insurance sector dominates the market with 40% of revenue, followed by life insurance (30%), reflecting a growing culture of long-term savings. Health insurance ranks third.

Despite these advances, the average annual insurance expenditure per person remains low, estimated at 318 dinars compared with a target of 500 dinars, according to the FTUSA DG.
