The regional director of the UN Population Fund (UNFPA), Mr. Bunmi Makinwa, said Friday in Dakar, the Senegalese capital, that African g o vernments should evolve efficient strategies to develop the continent by themsel v es.
“We need policies which directly target the poorest populations, without which i t would be very difficult to reduce the number of poor people in Africa,” he sai d in an interview with PANA.
According to Makinwa, African leaders must evolve long-term strategies to help c itizens get out of underdevelopment.
“Before asking for aid from international institutions, African leaders must fir st organize themselves and work out some plans for development which are peculia r to the realities of the impoverished people,” Makinwa added.
