The exchange volume between Algeria and its Maghreb neighbours reached 1,14 billion dollars during the nine first months of the year, according to customs statistics.
Algerian imports from these countries reached 884 million dollars, while its exports to its neighbours did not exceed 251 million. The rates and the amounts of external trade exchange are very low, and they do not at all reflect the existing exchange potentials between the region countries, provided the diversity of their production and the proximity of their markets. This low trade exchange between Algeria and the Maghreb countries explains the rate which does not exceed 2 %, of the country exchange with its neighbours, while it goes up to 64 % with the European Union countries.
