Congo moves to diversify economy

Congo Brazzaville is working to develop its agricultural sector to take the country away from its over-dependence on oil, according to t h e country’s Ambassador to Angola, Mr. Jean Baptiste Dzangue.

Angola’s official news agency, ANGOP, Wednesday quoted the Ambassador as saying the Congolese authorities had been setting up projects named ‘New Agricultural V i llages’, under a a programme dubbed Le Chemin D’ Avenir (The way of the future),

launched by President Denis Sassou Nguesso.

He said the villages would create incentives for the growth of agriculture, fish farming, cattle-breeding, as well as implementation of other necessary projects .

The Ambassador said the country was cashing in on its abundant natural resources , including forests and rivers, in developing the projects.

He also said Congo would create a special economic zone in many parts of the cou ntry to boost development.
