Covid-19 in Tunisia : About 1.2 million people have applied for exceptional aid

Around 1.2 million people have applied to delegations to receive the exceptional social assistance granted to fight against the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), Social Affairs Minister Mohamed Habib Kchaou announced Thursday.

Speaking at a press briefing, the minister said after cross-checking on a sample of 3,000 people (out of a total of 1.2 million people) through a database, the ministry found that only 800 people are eligible for the exceptional aid.

The Ministry will start cross-checking operations through committees within the delegations from April 27 onwards, in accordance with a joint ministerial circular drawn up between the Ministries of Social Affairs and Local Affairs.

The Ministry of Social Affairs had called on needy families to fill out forms at the delegations within a period not exceeding April 15, before selecting those who meet the criteria and proceeding with the payment of the 200-dinar exceptional aid to its beneficiaries.
