Investments reported at TIA soar 434% in 2022

The TIA (Tunisia Investment Authority) worked in the first quarter of 2022 for the declaration of 6 projects for a cumulative investment envelope of 1377.3 MDT allowing the creation of 1083 jobs.

It resulted in a significant increase of 434% in terms of investment which is explained by the declaration of a cement project for a substantial investment cost of 950 million dinars in March 2022. Apart from this investment operation, investments recorded until March 2022 would have posted a rise of 66%, said the TIA.

The investment projects reported cover operations of creation, extension distributed as follows:

– 3 projects of creation (50%) with an investment cost of 1065.3 MD and 502 jobs to create.

– 3 projects of extension (50%) with an investment cost of 312MD and 581 jobs to be created.

The volume of investments generated by the operations of creation is clearly higher than that of the operations of extension, which demonstrates a positive sign compared to the nature of the declared investments

The analysis of the sectoral evolution of the reported investments reveals that the volume of investments posed a significant increase of (439%) in the industrial sector compared to the same period of 2021.

EMIs lead in industrial investments                             

A more detailed analysis at the level of industrial investments reported during the first quarter of 2022 reveals significant shares of the projects in the industries of Construction Materials, Ceramics and Glass (75%) and those of the Electrical Mechanical Industries (19%). On the other hand, the sector of the Mechanical Industries monopolizes the largest share (62%) in job creation.

In the sector of the electrical mechanical industries (EMIs), all the reported investments concern the automotive sector (manufacture of automotive components) with a volume of investment of 242 MDT, these investments are of French origin.

Of all the projects declared during the 1st quarter of 2022,

– 2 projects operate under the fully exporting regime with a total investment budget of 242 MD allowing the creation of 545 jobs.

– 4 projects declared under the regime other than totally exporting with an investment cost of 1135.3 MD allowing the creation of 538 jobs.

The 6 investment projects declared during the 1st quarter of 2022 cover 6 governorates, 33% of the declared projects are located in the regional development areas with an investment cost of 1020 MD or 74% of the total investment declared and allowing the creation of 336 jobs or 31% of the total number of jobs to be created.

5 projects Among the investment projects declared to the TIA in the 1st quarter of 2022 include a foreign participation for an investment cost of 1307,3 MDT that is 95% of the declared investments and generating 1,047 job positions. The Projects of National Interest (PIN) represent 50% of the number of projects declared with a total investment volume of 1192 MDT or (87%) of the total investment declared allowing the creation of 845 jobs or (78%) of the declared jobs.
