Job seekers block oil export in Libya

Oil export from the eastern Libyan port of Al-Zawaytina has been halted for
the past seven days, after persons described as job seekers broke into the facility and blocked the export operation, according to eyewitnesses.

Some 10 persons broke into the port last Tuesday, shortly after the employees of the oil company Zawaytina ended their strike and resumed oil production.

“The situation has remained unchanged. Exports are still at a standstill,” one witness said.

The Zawaytina firm has the capacity to pump between 60,000 and 70,000 barrels of crude oil per day.

Other oil fields, including the elephant field jointly managed by Libya’s Oil Office and the Italy-based ENI, have suffered similar fate in recent times
