Libya, Algeria want to strengthen oil cooperation

Libya and Algeria are seeking to strengthen their cooperation in the field of oil by revitalising the activities of the Algerian National Oil Company, SONATRACH, in Libya, tye local media reported here Friday.

The report said the announcement was made after talks held Thursday in Algiers between Libyan Energy Minister Abdel al- Bari Arsi and his Algerian counterpart Yusuf Youssfi .

“The talks between the two sides focused on ways and means to strengthen cooperation…between the two countries in the fields of oil and gas industry as well as the activities of the Sonatrach complex operating in Libya,” the report said.

The Libyan Minister reaffirmed the importance of cooperative relations between the two countries, particularly in the fields of oil and gas.

He also emphasised the importance that Libya attaches to cooperation, experience sharing and coordination in international organisations between the two countries.

Sonatrach, which has been operating in Libya since 2005, has discovered two oil fields and drilled eight wells in the Libyan Sahara.
