Crude oil exports resumed on Saturday evening from the port of al-Harriga in the Libyan eastern city of Tobrouk with a cargo of 750,000 barrels, after more than a break of two months, the Libyan national oil company (NOC) said on Sunday.
The oil comes from the oil terminals of Sarir and Msala, in the south of the country, the NOC spokesperson, Mohamed al-Harairi, told the Libyan news agency LANA.
It was expected that a second cargo of 600,000 barrels will be loaded on Sunday, added Mr al-Harairi.
The Arabian Gulf Oil Company (Agoco) would from Sunday resume production in the oil terminals of Sarir and Msala.
Production in Libya, Africa’s fourth largest oil producer, was 1.6 million of barrels before the revolution that overthrew the regime of Mouamar Kadhafi. However, it plunged to less than 200,000 barrels/day after the closure of the oil terminals in the east of the country by separatist armed groups.
Former guards of oil ports have since July been blocking oil terminals in the east of the country to protest first against the sale of crude oil without account and later to demand the autonomy of the Cyrenaic (East).
An agreement ensured the lifting of the blockade at the two ports, al-Harrigua and Zueitina.
