Nigerian bank executive elected into international body

The executive officer of the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), Alhaji Umaru Ibrahim, has been elected unopposed into the Executive Council of the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI) to take the reserved seat of the Africa Regional Committee on the Council.

A statement made available to PANA in Lagos Monday by the NDIC said the decision to elect the Nigerian banker was made at the on-going 12th IADI Annual General Meeting (AGM) and 2013 Annual Conference in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

“The election of Alhaji Umaru Ibrahim on the association’s Executive Council was in recognition of the NDIC’s commitment and towering contributions to the attainment of the IADI’s vision and mission in Africa and (his) efforts towards enhancing the role of the Corporation in promoting financial system stability in Nigeria,” the statement said.

IADI was formed in May 2002 as a forum for deposit insurers around the world to share knowledge and expertise through international conferences and other capacity building programs.

In furtherance of its objectives, the Association develops core principles, standards and guidelines to enhance effectiveness of the deposit insurance systems in various jurisdictions across the world.
