Nigeria’s telecoms regulatory agency to implement Mobile Number Portability

The regulatory Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has said it will soon implement the Mobile Number Portability (MNP) scheme, which will allow subscribers to move from one mobile operator to another without losing their numbers.

However, the NCC, which made the announcement in a statement, did not say when the scheme will takeoff.

Industry analysts have said the implementation of the MNP will force operators to raise their service delivery standards, as subscribers who are not satisfied with the services being offered by a particular operator would easily migrate to one that offers better quality.

Nigeria currently has over 90 million active telephone lines, 95 percent of which are mobile lines
