‘Only two Gabonese airlines meet security norms’

Gabonese National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) Thursday said only two of the seven local airlines, Allegiance and Afrijet, had met with the air security rules in the country.

The disclosure followed an audit into the country’s national airlines.

“The audit is waiting to be validated by the government. The Gabon airlines, 2AG, Sky services, Afric Aviation and the National would show technical and security failures,” ANAC said.

PANA reported that the audit was initiated by the government following forced landing, in early June in Libreville, of an Antonov plane belonging to the South African airline, Solenta Aviation.

The Gabonese Transport Ministry had immediately banned Antonov 12, Antonov 24 and Antonov 26 planes from flying into the country
