The Council of Ministers of the Southern Africa Deve lopment Community (SADC) begins a two-day meeting on Saturday in the Namibian ca p ital, Windhoek, to prepare for the 30th meeting of the heads of state and govern m ent of the organization scheduled for 16-17 August.
The experts’ meeting ended on Friday after preparing the agenda for the minister ial conference that will be held under the theme, “SADC, 30 years of progress to w ards regional integration.â?
The Angolan national secretary for SADC, Ms Beatriz Morais, said the the council of ministers would discuss the contributions of member states and international
The conference is also expected to assess the report of the executive secretary, Mozambican Tomas Salomao, on developments in the organization, since the last S A DC summit held in Zimbabwe in 2009.
According to Ms Morais the report highlights the political situation within SADC , regional economic and institutional integration and cooperation with other reg i onal and international organizations.
She added that the conference would discuss the participation of SADC nationals in a competition established 10 years ago for journalists and secondary school s t udents in the region,.
A meeting of the committee for regional economic integration discussed the imple mentation and consolidation of the free trade zone, preparation for the customs u nion and cooperation with other regional communities.
Meanwhile, the Angolan delegation to the council of ministers meeting arrived in Windhoek on Thursday headed by Planning minister, Ana Dias LourenÃ§o. Other mem b ers are Geology and Mining minister, Joaquim David and Commerce minister, Idalin a Valente.
