Tunisia: 61,000 jobs created in H1 (Ministry)

More than half of the 100 thousand jobs planned for 2012 were created in the first half of this year (61 thousand).

According to the Ministry of Vocational Training and Employment, the number of new jobs created may even turn out higher than foreseen.

The unemployment rate fell by 3.1% in 2012, declining from 18.9% to 17.6%, it was indicated in a press statement published Tuesday by the Department which points, however, to the scarcity of workforce in several sectors such as building and public works, carpentry, mechanics, sanitary products, agriculture and welding.

These sectors’ needs are estimated at over 100 thousand workers.

The number of jobs created to June 2012 does not include recruitment in the public service (25 thousand) or the 6.5 thousand job positions to be provided by public corporations in the second half of 2012, said the Ministry.
