Tunisia: adoption of urgent program to establish 38 sea water desalination mobile units

An urgent program for the establishment of 38 seawater desalination mobile units was adopted Thursday by the Ministries of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries and Development, Investment and International Cooperation at a joint working session, according to a statement from the Ministry of Agriculture.

The program aims to cope with difficulties faced for months in several parts of country in drinking water supply.

It also provides for the creation of three mobile units for desalination of brackish groundwater and equipment of 34 deep wells, with 200 million dinars.

This program also provides for strengthening drinking water supply systems in Cap Bon, the Sahel and Sfax through the acquisition and connection of 30 mobile units for desalination of sea water, the acquisition and connection of 3 stations of brackish groundwater and the achievement of 20 deep wells.

It also includes the acquisition and connection of 5 mobile units of seawater desalination in Zarzis to strengthen the supply system in the southeast, the acquisition and connection of 3 mobile units of seawater desalination and construction of two wells in order to consolidate the supply system in the region of Gabes, El Hamma and Mattouia.

For cities supplied in water through local groundwater resources, their supply system will be strengthened through the completion and connection of 12 wells (2 in Kef, 2 in Kasserine, 5 in Gafsa and 3 in Kebili Souk Lahad).
